Hoose: A Platform to Combat Social Isolation and Strengthen Communities
The Challenge: Connecting Neighbors in Scotland
Hoose was created to address social isolation among older adults in Scotland. The project’s goal was to design a platform that fosters local community connections and encourages interactions across different age groups.
The Brief: Designing for Engagement
The task was to develop an online platform that is accessible, engaging, and supportive for older adults, while also promoting intergenerational connections. The platform needed features to help residents find local events, join discussions, and participate in community activities.
My Role as a Designer
As the lead designer, my responsibilities included:
User Research: Conducted a survey to understand community needs and challenges.
User Personas: Developed personas based on survey insights to guide design decisions.
User Flow: Created user flows to outline the app’s structure and navigation.
Naming and Branding: Designed the brand identity for Hoose, including the name, logo, and visual style.
Wireframing and Prototyping: Developed wireframes and interactive prototypes for the platform.
UI Design: Crafted the user interface to be intuitive and visually engaging.
Testing and Iteration: Refined the design based on user feedback and testing.
Before and After
Before: Lack of a dedicated online community platform led to feelings of isolation for older adults.
After: Hoose provided a vibrant space for connection, community support, and engagement.
Conclusion
Designing Hoose was a rewarding experience that allowed me to apply my skills in user research, design, and prototyping to create a meaningful solution for social isolation. The project was a great opportunity to make a positive impact on community life.
